Some of the questions I am asked most frequently are, “How can I find a writing buddy? Where did you find your own critique partners? Help! I need beta readers!”
And, yes, as you may have noticed, that last isn’t a question so much as a desperate plea for help. I noticed too!
Need a Writing Buddy? You’re Not Alone!
Writing is a solitary life, which means it’s especially nice to send out a ping and hear a friendly echo in return. It reminds us we’re really all in this crazy adventure together.
Even more specifically, writers need the help of one another. None of us is able to edit our own work with complete objectivity. To take things to the next level, we need the critique and encouragement of other writers—people who know what they’re doing and who are as passionate about the same type of stories as we are.
And yet, it can be strangely difficult to actually connect with all of these similarly “single and looking” fellow writers out there.
That’s why I’m super excited about today’s post!
Find Your New Writing Buddy Right Here!
Quite a few years ago, YA author Lisa Marie messaged me on Facebook with an awesome idea:
I … was wondering if you ever considered offering a writing buddy link-up. It’s so hard to find a writing buddy that you really click with…. I don’t know other writers and would love to connect with others. And you have such a great community. Sometimes I’ve seen pages where they’ll offer buddies to each other, the people who want to connect link their names.
I first ran this post back then, to an enthusiastic response. Today, I want to share it again (and if you all like it, I may make it a more regular feature). If you’re interested in exchanging critiques with other writers, you’re in the right place.
