Meet Shanna A Jefferson

Please introduce yourself to the Creating Change Magazine.

I hail from Allendale, SC graduating in 2002 from Allendale-Fairfax High School. Upon graduation, I matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning my Bachelor of Public Policy and Master of Social Work degrees. Currently, I am completing my Doctorate in Business Administration specializing in Entrepreneurship. My mother worked as a paraprofessional for the school district. By the time I was born, my Father had already retired as an educator for more than 33 years. To support his family, my Father became the watermelon man, peachman, tapeman…you know name it. He did what he had to do to support his family. My Father was the ultimate entrepreneur. My humble upbringing certainly has had a profound impact on everything I do in life and business.

Could you tell us what type of business you have and how long you’ve been operating your business?

Professionally, I am a Psychotherapist, Personal Development Strategist, Business Coach, Author, and Motivational Speaker. I am the Clinical Director and Lead Psychotherapist at Destination Greatness Mental Health Services. In February, we celebrated 10 years of serving clients in NC, SC, and GA. In 2020, I established my coaching and consulting firm, Visions of Greatness Enterprises, where we help entrepreneurs create harmony in their life and business through personal development, mental wellness, and sustainable business practices.

What inspires you to pursue your dreams and goals?

As the daughter of a Black man born in 1929 who was denied opportunities simply because of the color of his skin, my greatest inspiration stems from my passion to be a vessel and beacon of hope, light, change and greatness.

We have a learning audience, so could you tell us 3 valuable lessons you have learned as a creative and changemaker?

1. Embrace failure as an opportunity for growth and learning: Recognize that failure is a natural part of the creative process and making change. Instead of being discouraged by failures, view them as valuable opportunities to learn, adapt, and improve your approach.

2. Persistence and resilience are essential for overcoming challenges: Understand that the journey of a creative or changemaker is often filled with obstacles and setbacks. Cultivate a mindset of persistence and resilience to stay motivated and determined, even when faced with adversity, and continue working towards your goals.

3. Collaboration and networking can enhance creativity and create greater impact: Understand the power of collaboration and building connections with others. By working with like-minded individuals, you can benefit from diverse perspectives, complementary skills, and shared resources. Collaborative efforts and a strong network can amplify your creativity and increase the impact of your work.
