BARCELONA NADAL

This year, I’ve teamed up with product designer Ester Pujol to create a unique set of Christmas lights that will adorn the narrow, winding streets of Barcelona. Together, we developed a modular lamp inspired by “el panot de flor”, the iconic floral pattern found in the city’s sidewalks. The lamp’s shape is a three-dimensional interpretation of this flower, which, when extruded, takes on the form of Gaudí’s cross. When tiled, it echoes the intricate ceramic patterns that grace the floors of many historic Barcelona apartments.

By merging tradition with innovation, our design aims to bring a new light to the city’s holiday season, while paying homage to its rich architectural heritage.

During the exploration phase of the project, we noticed a common issue with Christmas street lights: while they look stunning at night, by day they often become an unsightly tangle of cables. And a lamp, after all, is still a lamp when it’s not in use. From this, the idea began to take shape.
