Tidal Studies

Tidal patterns in coastal environments emerge from the interaction of tidal currents, sediment dynamics, and coastal morphology. The gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun generates tides, with their range influenced by coastline shape, continental shelves, and underwater topography. In areas with wide, shallow coastal shelves, tidal waters spread over vast flats, constantly reshaping the landscape.

As water moves in and out, it transports fine sediments like sand, silt, and clay, carving intricate channels, ridges, and ripple formations. Wind and wave action further refine these textures, while sediment input from rivers contributes to layered and stratified structures. The result is a constantly evolving, ephemeral landscape where patterns shift with each tidal cycle, revealing the ongoing geological forces that shape coastal environments.
